The area known as the “Quad Cities” is a Midwest treasure and boasts a thriving art community. Located on the Mississippi River, the Quad City area includes both Iowa and Illinois cities (Moline, Rock Island, East Moline, Silvis, Milan, Davenport, Bettendorf). There are several long-standing art galleries and organizations. Two outstanding art groups are MidCoast Fine Arts and Quad City Arts. Both have galleries and several areas around the Quad Cities that offer rotating exhibitions. Lori Miller of Eldridge, Iowa, has been showcased by both of these quality art entities. She creates some of the most exciting original fiber arts works in the area. Using a special, stylized mosaic technique that she says helps her to “give expression to things [she sees] in the world”, Miller creates dramatic fiber pieces. She fills each work with color, focusing on scenes of nature, and the beauty of the outside world.
Lori Miller has also had work in several smaller independent galleries and shops throughout the Quad Cities. To find out more about the art scene in the Quad Cities, be sure to visit the QC Tourism website as there are numerous events and festivals throughout the year in the area. Miller’s work is well-known and supported throughout the Quad Cities culture and arts scene!
Most of us are familiar with some of the most common forms of fiber art — such as knitting, crocheting, and sewing. But what about the other, lesser-known forms? These include:
Many fiber artists practice several of these forms — and some, like Miller, do something entirely different. The world of fiber arts allows for incredible variety.
